Overview


Established in 1982 as a textile trading company, Meenakshi India Ltd. (MIL) has grown into a leading publicly traded corporation and the flagship entity of the Meenakshi Group of Companies, which also has interests in steel, plantations, power generation, industrial warehousing, and education. With its head office in Chennai, MIL operates three advanced manufacturing units in Salem, Tamil Nadu, India, producing up to 240,000 garments each month.

Specialising in bottom wear and outerwear, Meenakshi has become the preferred partner of globally recognized apparel brands. Our success is built on hard work, sincerity, and commitment to excellence, as evidenced by our long-standing client relationships. We offer a wide range of services, including bespoke washes, intricate computerised embroidery, and artisanal dry finishes like hand scraping, grinding, nicking, and tacking. Each step of our production is guided by an ERP system to ensure precision and quality.

1982

Humble Beginnings

Meenakshi India Ltd starts as a textile trading company, with its base in Chennai, TN India.

1992

Setting up

The first apparel manufacturing unit is set up in Chennai, producing shirts with a modest capacity of 20,000 garments per year.

2000

Going green

We power our manufacturing units with wind and solar energy, leading the way in sustainability long before it became a trend.

2005

Relocating

In order to meet our growing manpower and customer demands, we relocate our manufacturing unit from Chennai to Salem, a major textile centre about 340 kms southwest of Chennai.

2008

Unit 2 and Laundry

We double our capacity by setting up an additional manufacturing unit in Salem and expand into the bottomwear and outerwear markets to meet ever-evolving market demands. Additionally, we add laundry and embroidery facilities to our existing unit, making us more self-sufficient.

2010

Unit 3

We establish another manufacturing unit and add further sewing capacity to our second unit, building our total manufacturing capacity to 200,000 garments per month.

2022

Switching to Solar

We set up a solar plant on the rooftop of our largest facility, ensuring 100% of its energy requirements are generated using renewable sources.

2023

Additional Capacity

We expand our third manufacturing unit by an additional 50%, increasing the monthly capacity to 240,000 garments. The company also ventures into the production of Athleisure.

Leadership and corporate structure

Meenakshi operates on a simple principle: using our team’s time and energy efficiently to focus on customer satisfaction and product quality. We follow clear corporate guidelines for reporting.

Promoted by Mr. S. S. Goenka in 1982 as a textile trading business, Meenakshi India Ltd. is now a public limited company led by Mr. Ashutosh Goenka. As founder and MD, he defines the company growth path while offering dependability to all stakeholders. Under his leadership, Meenakshi has established healthy relationships with many clients globally over the last three decades. This has helped revenues to grow at a CAGR of 18%.

Our CEO leads the merchandising, purchase, export, development finance, and HR departments of around 55 people in addition to managing the 3 manufacturing units in Salem. Each manufacturing unit has its own unit manager, who works with a team of industrial engineers and experts. Powering it all is our highly skilled workforce of 1700 people, spread across the 3 units.

Education

Goenka Public School, one of the best residential schools in Rajasthan, India, is a unit of the Goenka Institute of Education and Research. It is a private education institution for the community in Rajasthan with over 2000 students currently enrolled across 5 institutions which include CBSE and RBSE boards up to class XII, B.Ed and B,Pharm degree, and undergraduate degrees. The school provides a modern infrastructure, hygienic living conditions, a happy and creative environment, and the balanced and nutritious diet necessary for growing children.

Power Generation

We pursue non-conventional energy generation in the form of wind farms and solar panels. The power generated is for captive consumption and is used at all our factories and plants.

Plantation

Our plantations, spread over 700 acres in South India, comprise coffee, pepper, and cardamom. Future plans include diversification into modern farming methods such as hydroponics and polyhouse farming.

Steel

Registered in 2015, MIL Steel & Power Limited has extensive knowledge in the manufacturing & supply of billets, raw steel, rough steel rods, and other semi-finished casting products. The company is located in Gummidipoondi, Tamil Nadu, and is one of the leading manufacturers of steel billets in India.

Industrial Warehousing

The group also operates 112,000 sqf of industrial warehousing space under the name of Meenakshi Industrial Park, with additional 8Mn sqf of space planned over the next 5 years. Read more at
